Airline Check-in Guide

Ready to check in?
Now that your bags are packed and you’re ready to go, all that’s left to do is check in.
With our useful check-in guide, you can conveniently check in for your flight online or at the airport.

Online Check-In Guide

Whether you’re a first-time traveller or a seasoned frequent flyer, the last thing you feel like doing is wasting time standing in queues at the check-in counter. Save yourself the hassle of long queues at the airport by checking in for your flight before you get there. Simply select the airline you’re travelling with and you’ll be directed straight to their online check-in page.

Most airlines offering online check-in open their check-in availability 48 to 24 hours prior to flight departure. Online check-in usually closes 90 minutes before domestic departure, and two hours before international departure. After checking in online, be sure to print your boarding pass, or collect it from a self-service kiosk at the airport (subject to the airline).

Unless you have excess baggage or pets to check in, or visas that need to be verified, take advantage of the seamless online check-in process made available by most leading airlines. Please note that not all airlines offer online check-in.

Airport Check-In

For domestic flights, you are advised to be at the airport between 60 and 90 minutes ahead of your scheduled flight departure. All check-in counters (including baggage) generally close 40 minutes before the plane departs.

International flights require you to arrive between two and two and a half hours before your flight departs. Please note that flights to anywhere in the USA require you to be at the airport at least three hours ahead of departure time. Most international flights require you to have additional documents, such as proof of accommodation and a return ticket home. Remember to bring your international passport and visa (if necessary).

Once check-in has been completed and you have your luggage tag, you may proceed to the boarding gates with your boarding pass. All that’s left to do is board your flight and jet off!

Whether you’ve already checked in online or intend to check in at the airport, make sure you have all the necessary documents with you to ensure a smooth process. Before leaving for the airport, check that you have your:

  • Passport
  • ECOWAS Certificate (if travelling within the 15 West African states)
  • Visa (if applicable)

With this handy check-in guideline, all you need to worry about is getting to the airport on time. Whether you prefer to check in online or at the airport, you can enjoy a stress-free travel experience all the way. Happy travelling!
