Fly To Toulouse, France
The effervescent city of Toulouse perches on the banks of the Garonne River, on the site of an ancient Roman settlement. Its narrower streets still follow the same ancient paths, and many of the redbrick buildings that gave it the nickname “La Ville Rose” are Romanesque in style.
Don’t be fooled by the age, the history or the architecture, though - Toulouse has come a long way since ancient times. It’s now the centre of Europe’s aerospace industry, and houses the largest cancer research centre in Europe, the headquarters of Intel and the third largest student population in France.

See and do
There are two distinct sides to Toulouse for visitors to explore - the old and the new - and it’s the combination of both that gives this city its unique charm.
Rich in history going back centuries, the architecture, churches and museums are spectacular. The 18th century Place du Capitole, 16th century Pont Neuf and 11th century Saint-Pierre des Cuisines (with its 4th century crypt) are all glorious examples of their time.
You’ll find their modern counterparts in the Les Abattoirs Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Le Château d'Eau gallery of contemporary photography, the Airbus factory tours, and the Cité de l'Espace.
When it comes to shopping you’ll find a hint of the old in the numerous markets around town, or in the second-hand shops behind the Ecole des Beaux Arts. You’ll find some lovely pieces here that make original souvenirs, if you don’t want the typical space-themed trinkets sold at the Cité de l'Espace.
Public transport is perfectly modern in Toulouse and the network of bus and metro lines is easy to navigate. There’s a free shuttle bus circling the historic centre of town, but this area is really best seen on foot. You can plan longer trips using the online route planner, or hire a bicycle for shorter trips throughout the day.
