Fly To Lourdes, France
Located in the magnificent Pyrenees Mountains, and home to a number of traditional villages, ski resorts and spas, Lourdes is the ideal base from which to explore the Midi-Pyrénées region. Enjoy south-west France and its natural beauty in summer, or ski the magnificent snow-covered slopes in winter. This beautiful little market town in the mountains is a popular tourist destination and is well-known for the miracle that apparently occurred here, when a village resident called Bernadette Soubirous, saw the Virgin Mary no less than 18 times.
Whether you visit as a pilgrimage, or come to enjoy the town’s cosmopolitan atmosphere, you’ll find lots to enchant you in Lourdes.
See and do
Each year, over a million pilgrims come to Lourdes to see the shrine here, which marks the spot where the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous when she was 14 years old. But there are a number of other fascinating historical sights to see in the city, too, including the Castle, an impressive old fortress that was once the home of Counts, then a Royal prison and finally a garrison. In 1921 it was transformed into the Pyrenean Museum. For a magnificent view of the Pyrenees, take the funicular railway to the Pic du Jer, 1000m up. If you’re energetic, you can climb there instead!
Just 3km from the centre of Lourdes you’ll find Lourdes Lake, a huge glacial lake in a magnificent, tranquil setting where people enjoy walking, mountain biking, fishing and canoeing.
