Nigerian passport holders require a tourist visa for the Bahamas. Luckily, the process is a relatively painless one! You will need to apply at the British Embassy in Abuja or Lagos (there are no Bahamas embassies in Nigeria). Always apply for your tourist visa at least 30 days prior to your travel date for sufficient processing time (and to spare yourself any unnecessary stress!).

Types of Visas

Single Entry Tourist Visa – This single entry visa is valid for a period of 3 months.

Multiple Entry Tourist Visa – The multiple entry visa is issued to applicants for a period of six months or one year.

The Bahamas visa allows Nigerians to stay on the island for up to 90 days.

How long does it take to process a Bahamas visa?

The Bahamas visa is typically processed within two weeks of your application but always apply a little earlier to be safe.

The collection of your visitor visa must be done at the British Embassy in Nigeria where you made the application.

The application fee must be the exact amount in British Pounds, made in cash or via money order only, payable to The Bahamas High Commission. No other currency or cash will be accepted and will lead to an unsuccessful application.

Bahamas Visa Requirements

Applications must submit certified photocopies of all documents.

  • Visa application form completed and signed by the applicant.
  • Passport; must be valid for at least six months after the date of departure from The Bahamas; passport must have at least two blank pages for the issuance of the Bahamas visa.
  • Two recent passport sized coloured photographs (taken within 3 months of visa application).
  • A letter indicating the date and purpose of your travels to The Bahamas, as well as the return address for the delivery of your passport.
  • A confirmed e-ticket to The Bahamas with dates of arrival and return, or a confirmed cruise voucher showing evidence of a scheduled stop to the Bahamas Islands.
  • Proof of permission of return to the country of residence (in Nigeria), such as a residence permit or ID document.
  • Transit visas for any country included in your flight itinerary (eg. the USA or UK visa).
  • A current letter of employment or enrolment in school or college.
  • Current bank statement or credit card statement to prove sufficient funds for travel; cash or traveller’s cheques can be shown to the value of $100 (₦36,316) per day.
  • Confirmed hotel booking or letter of invitation from the host in The Bahamas, detailing the length of your stay as well as the telephone number and address of your host.
  • A yellow fever vaccination certificate issued 10 days prior to entering The Bahamas.

Nigerian citizens need to apply for a Bahamas visa at the British Embassy in Nigeria. The Bahamas Island does not have a physical embassy in Nigeria. The British Embassy in Nigeria is a representative for the Bahamas Islands and provides support for people who wish to visit the Bahamas. The British Embassy will process and send your documents to the nearest Bahamas Island office for your visa to be approved. The British Embassy does not officially issue the Bahamas visa from their offices in Nigeria, but you can speak to a customer service representative for further information.
