Now you can make this dream possible with informed guidance on how to obtain your South African visa. Nigerian passport holders require a visitor visa to enter South Africa. You will need to apply at a VFS Global Centre branch in Abuja, Lagos or Port Harcourt. Always apply for your South African visitor visa at least four weeks before you travel to allow for ample processing time. Please check your eligibility before beginning the application process. Once you have your visa, all that’s left to do is pack your bags!
Please note this process is applicable to Nigerian passport holders.
Types of Visas
- Visitors Visa – The visitors’ visa is primarily used for visiting family or vacationing for a short period of time. It is valid for temporary stays of up to 90 days.
- Long Stay Visitor Visa – Best suited for foreign nationals to stay in South Africa for a period between 3 months and 3 years.
Processing Time
Processing a South African visa can take a minimum of six working days. The time may vary as each application has to undergo an individual assessment.
Collection
You can collect your visa at the respective VFS Global Centre. The visa application centre is open from Monday to Friday, except on public holidays and over weekends. Bring along the receipt which you received on the day you submitted your application. You will be notified via SMS when your application has been sent to the South African Embassy on the submission day. You can track your South African visa application online.

Applicants are to pay in cash at Bank Implant inside VFS Centre. Be sure to have a copy of the first page of your passport when paying the service and visa fee at the bank.
Visa Requirements
You will require the following documents for a visitor visa:
- A valid passport (validity of at least 30 days after the intended stay).
- Two identical passport size (45x45mm) photographs on white background showing your complete face.
- Application Form (BI84), fully completed in black ink only.
- Copy of passport data page as well as copies of existing visa and previously issued visas.
- Self-introduction letter with a physical address and phone number.
- Introduction/Recommendation letter from an employer, where applicable, signed with contact details.
- Verifiable hotel reservation/bookings – must be done directly with the hotels and not through third parties.
- Copy of international vaccination card (yellow fever card), fully completed by a health practitioner.
- Proof of financial status (six months recent bank statements) or financial support letter from employer with six months bank statements in a case where the employer is sponsoring the trip.
- Birth certificate for minors/children travelling with parents.
- Marriage certificate where applicable and if the intended stay will be for more than 90 days.
- Flight booking.
- Non-refundable visa fee of ₦8,600, excluding service fee.

you need documents that applies to you.
If you have not gotten any visa before then you need not worry about already existing Visa.
Also you if are traveling for study then you need not also worry about getting any letter from your employer, rather you should get your admission letter in the case of study.
You should also get your yellow card from the appropriate authority here in Nigeria before you travel

According to information on their website, they said it doesn’t take more than 6 days to process. Have not receive any info to pick up my passport. Your host needs to send you a photocopy of his residence ID card and an invitation letter, showing his address, full name, and phone numbers. And no, you don’t need to send any form online before printing the hard copy. The Application form and other documents should be submitted to vfs.

That’s not true. If you are travelling, make sure you have enough money that will be enough for you during your stay in South Africa. You can take your Credit Card along with you instead of Cash. And you don’t have to spend up to 3000 dollars after getting your visa. All you need is to pay for your flight and get moving.

Yes, Bukky, the company can provide their financial statement, however, I doubt if they can do that since its not in Nigeria. But you can submit your own bank statement since you have other documents from the company.

Hi Omolade, Even though, you can apply for an extension in Nigeria, I will advise you to process it in South Africa. Processing Time in South Africa for visa extension in SA takes 30 to 40 days. You need the following documents to apply:
– Passport valid for no less than 30 days after expiry of the intended visit.
– Statement or documentation detailing the purpose and duration of the visit
– Proof of a valid return or onward ticket or sufficient financial means to purchase such ticket or to facilitate the return of the applicant.
– Proof of sufficient financial means
– A proof that you are a student of a University in SA

Instead of getting someone to introduce you, why don’t you ask someone to transfer some cash into your account for a month. then you can get a 6 months bank statement and submit all your documents. Getting someone to introduce is not likely to be accepted. Unless you are working and your company introduces you and give you their bank statements to submit.

If your resumption date is 10th of September, I’ll advise you to submit your application at VFS Centre as soon as possible. If you are documents are valid, your visa shouldn’t take less than 2 weeks to be issued.

I can decide or know your proposed date of departure. If you submit your application on the 3rd of November, it depends on the VFS Global and amount of time it will take to verify your document and to approve your application. It shouldn’t take more than 2 weeks. You have to leave South Africa before your visa expires.
There are different schl wit different fees depend on which course u wish to opt for and sch, u can still get a schl wit average fee of R8000 per semester without accommodation

I did mentioned a minimum of N500, 000 to N600, 000. I guess your application was reviewed before you submitted. I guess you have no problem if you were able to submit.

At the airport she was declared “undesirable” and given a form.I have followed the process writing to . i got a reply from them and was given 2 numbers to call which are ringing and no-one is answering them. Hi Mercy, You can apply for direct residence visa too. This type of visa is issued to families of anyone who has a work permit for five years. But your daughter must be under 21 years of age. If she is, you are both qualify for permanent residence visa/permit. You will have apply directly to the South Africa High Commission at 24 Molade Okoyo Thomas Street, Victoria Island, for this type of visa.

Hi Tola, You can download the application form online. You don’t need to present a form filled by Medical personnel unless you are travelling to South Africa for medical treatment.

From the list of requirements, he’s supposed to send me
1. An invitation letter
2. Proof of address of residence via utility bills and co
3. Copy of his permit and passport data page
4. His six months bank statement
My question: can these all be scanned and sent or the originals are required. Of course I know the data page and resident permit wud not require d originals to be sent, but for the others, do they need to be the original copies esp the letter.

The Invitation Letter can be written and sent to you via mail, then you can print out. I will advise you to submit your own six months bank statement. He can send you a scanned copy of his utility bills etc.

Kemi, please how do i package my application in other to get 3 month visitor visa. I have something doing in SA that will take me almost 3 month and based on what i have seen with SA visa, many are issued 30days or 2 weeks with 3 month expiration time.
Secondly, based on the new immigration law, is it possible to extend my visitors visa in SA without having to come back to Nigeria if the condition on my visa state that i can only stay for 30 days.
Thirdly, am i allowed to travel to neighbouring country like Swaziland and enter again incase i have a multiple entry visa with condition of not staying more than 30 days on each visit
Hi Peter, Have you been to SA before? If you have, you might be lucky to get a 3 or 6 months visa this time around. Also, you can not extend your visa in SA. If you want an extension, you will need to process that here before leaving.

However, Your employer needs to introduce you… they need to send letter of introduction, introducing you as an employee of the company in Nigeria and that you are coming for a conference in SA. They will also include the conference and travel date, your passport number, your full name and your position in the company.

I had put in my application at the Vfs center in abuja some two weeks ago and my scheduled travel date was supposed to be 2 days ago.
Basically, each time I do the online tracking, it still shows my application still under assessment. Given that my scheduled travel date which I also used in the application was 14th (2 days ago) and my visa is yet not ready, what normally happens in situations like this, if you’ve ever had an experience?

a south african film production company applied for visas for Nigerian actors to work in South Africa on a commercial from 8th to 10th April 2015. they were told that 5 working days were needed. they intended submitting all necessary forms and docs on 26th March but were told that the embassy was closed until 1st April. in the end the visas could not be issued until well after 8th April. can you let me know what a reasonable period to expect granting of the visas would be and confirm for me that the embassy was closed from 26th March to 1st April. many thanks.

Confirmed! I had to personally postpone applying for the visa in abuja because I was told the same thing when i called the VFS Global office in Wuse 2. I’d rather wait for a few weeks to apply in Lagos than have my visa delayed for close to three months.

what is verifiable hotel booking. i made an hotel booking, and they sent me an email about my reservation, but the money has not been deducted from my account. is this the email that i will print as reservation booking to accompany my other document. although the hotel has my account details in the form i filled online. must i pay and get a receipt before i apply or does that email make do for a verifiable reservation. they gave me a code for my name anyway.

I just got my study visa, however, as indicated on my visa application, the study is to span through a period of three years ie 2017-2019; but the study permit on the visa issued to me reads that my program will be completed on the 31 of December of this year(2017). How do i get it corrected? Thank you.
