Nigeria is a fascinating country with amazing cities. Most of these cities are known across the country for their attractions, scenery, natural resources and cultural heritage. We’ve come up with a list of the most loved cities in Nigeria so in no particular order, here are the most beautiful cities in Nigeria:
1. Ibadan
Ibadan, also known as the ‘ancient city’ is the capital of Oyo State. Located in the southwestern part of Nigeria, it is densely populated with so many industrial and commercial activities. This city has the first advanced learning institution – the University of Ibadan, the first skyscraper (Cocoa house) and the first teaching hospital in Africa. This city is known for tourism too, with a remarkable museum in the African study institution, botanical and zoological garden in Agodi and in the University of Ibadan. This is why Ibadan is one of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria.
2. Abuja
Nigeria’s federal capital, Abuja, is one of the most developed and most beautiful cities in Nigeria. Abuja is Nigeria’s seat of power and it is believed that in Abuja, life is good. Whether rich, middle class or poor, there somehow is a place for all. While in Abuja, experience a different kind of sightseeing that will make your visit memorable. Places like Jabi Lake and Millennium Park are really cool spots to unwind and have fun. For folks who love to shop, some of the big shopping stores in Abuja will give you value for your money.
3. Jos
Another one of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria is Jos and people love it particularly for its weather and serene environment. The southern part of Jos is said to be peaceful and the people are really accommodating. The standard of living in Jos is very affordable. it boasts a number of attractions including two museums, a wildlife park and game reserve, breathtaking waterfalls and striking hills and the 10 commandments statue.
4. Calabar
Located in southeastern Nigeria and watered by the Great Kwa and Calabar rivers, the city is home to a variety of attractions such as Obudu Cattle Ranch and Tinapa Resort. The city attracts visitors with its array of tasty delicacies, beautiful architecture and festivals. Every year, Calabar hosts Africa’s biggest street party known as the Calabar Carnival, where diverse colourful cultural costumes are displayed. For indigenous vacations in Nigeria, Calabar is often the first location that comes to mind, hence why it’s among the most beautiful cities in Nigeria.
5. Minna
Located in the west-central part of Nigeria, Minna is a quiet and beautiful city in Nigeria. According to history, Minna was a labour camp for railway construction and this led to the gradual development of the town to the major commercial city it is today. This town is not densely populated and it has a blend of several cultures and lifestyles. Minna has some notable tourist sites to her name, amongst which are the Gurara Falls, Baro Port, The Wushishi Transway Engine (first railway locomotive engine) and others, like Kainji Lake National Park which is not too far from the city.
6. Enugu
Popularly known as ‘coal city’ for its mining activities, Enugu is definitely on the list of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria. The city is one of the oldest urban areas within the region and the locals here are involved in agriculture, along with the mining of coal and other solid minerals. Enugu is loved by so many, not just for coal but for its notable tourist destinations like Awhum Waterfall and the famous Nmanwu Cultural Festival. In general, the city is highly commercialised and life in Enugu is like living in a fast lane.
7. Port Harcourt
You can’t list the most beautiful cities in Nigeria without Port Harcourt. This city was described as a “centre of black jewel” (oil). Port Harcourt is the state capital of Rivers State located in the south region of Nigeria. This town is known for its level of commerce as far back as 1912 due to the presence of the seaports used for exporting. It is home to so many multinational companies, most of which are affiliated with oil and gas. Port Harcourt is home to many tourist sites such as Isaac Boro Park, Bony Island and Ifoko Beach.
8. Uyo

Photo Source: Jae Pete on Flickr
Once labelled the neatest city in Nigeria, Uyo is a calm and serene destination. Also in southeastern Nigeria, it is the capital of Akwa Ibom, a major oil-producing state in the country. Uyo is on the list of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria because of its peace and serenity among other things. The inhabitants are predominantly farmers and traders. With the increased level of infrastructural growth and human development, Uyo is definitely a place to look out for. Some cool spots to look out for are the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort and Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre.
9. Kano
The city of Kano is the capital of Kano state in Northern Nigeria. While Kano is one of the largest and most beautiful cities in Nigeria, it is also an ancient city and is the pride of most northerners. The city boasts an international airport and a number of tourist attractions, including Bagauda Lake/Tiga Lake Resort, Gidan Makama Museum and Kofar Mata Dyeing Pit among others. The major annual festival is the Durbar Festival hosted by the Emir of Kano to mark and celebrate the two annual Muslim festivals Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Most of the locals are farmers which is no surprise since Kano is considered to be extensively irrigated with over three million hectares of land suitable for cultivation.
10. Warri
Warri is one of the biggest cities in Delta State and, of course, one of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria. Located on the lower Niger/Delta coastline, it is not the state capital but is the most popular city and has a lot of history compared to its capital, Asaba. Warri is an old town, famous for its traditional kingdom that dates back as far as the 15th and 16th centuries. It’s a port town that has a lot of industrial activities (oil and steel). Tourism here is huge thanks to attractions like the Palace of the Olu of Warri, Koko Red Mangrove Swamp, plenty of beaches and resorts.
11. Lagos
We can all agree that Lagos is definitely part of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria. This mega-state is separated by water bodies into two main parts: island and mainland. Lagos is located in the southwestern part of Nigeria and is known for commerce, filled with industries from all economic sectors. The nightlife in this city is as busy as the day, painted with many malls, clubs, restaurants and beaches. Visitors will always have a first-class experience whether buying, selling or simply exploring its local and international markets. The coastline alone makes Lagos a ravishing beauty!
12. Ilorin
Ilorin is a very interesting place. It’s a city that hasn’t really been in the limelight but is surprisingly one of the largest and most beautiful cities in Nigeria. Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, is located in the North Central region of the country. As quiet as Ilorin seems, it has an international cargo airport, a 20,000 capacity stadium and a standard baseball court. Ilorin is blessed with several natural resources and the standard of living is affordable. Pottery and traditional textile industry, among others, are thriving businesses there. Tourist attractions in the area include the Esie Museum and the stately Sobi Hill.

Thanks for the infor but You forgot to mention Onitsha, Nnewi and Aba which are in Anambra and Abia state respectively. While Onitsha host mainmarket which is rated as the largest market in African with other large markets in the town and Nnewi the japan of Nigeria because the availability of all kind of auto spare parts going on there and Aba which are regarded as the home of local made goods in Nigeria.
I Love Calabar! Nigeria is Beautiful!!!!
#WinATripFor2ToCalabar #ObuduRanch #IPrayIWin
Warri in the list has spoiled your observation. A town without infrastructures. There is nothing in Warri. When last did you visit Warri. Remove Warri and add Benin City.
Am Henry Akporherhe from Ughelli North LGA of Delta State.
Henry what d u knw abt warri? Dey shld remove warri and add benin city? Am ashamed u r a deltan at all. Can benin city hold a candle to Oghara? Not to mention warri. When was d last time u even visited warri? I would av been disappointed had I not seen warri among d list.
I support you Henry. Warri is a town to be worried about.
I rep 042(coal city)…
No place like home, love J town!
One people one destiny…
Yes! Ilorin. Ilu Esin.
Ilorin is a fantastic city…we need to explore more opportunities that will attract more investors and shout more about the friendly hospitality atmosphere which will attract more people in.
It feels great to see the ILcity on the list…Ilorin is an amazing town with a lot of potentials yet untapped…Ilorin is a city every tourist would love to be…great people, great hospitality, a peacful city like no other…IrepIlorin
Ilorin, Geri Alimi….but can’t stop laughing
The pictures used to depict the cities are with bais. You cannot convince me that there are no other locations of serenity in Ibadan and Jos like those of Lagos and P/Harcourt. Let us try to balance whatever comparison in the name of fair play.
These are old photographs. This story will not make the desired impression in the minds of the target tourists. The writer of this story should know better. You can improve on the story by using better photographs.
ibadan,d pacesetter,i luv my city
ibadan is accomodating & peaceful
Non communicative advertising. Hardly any mention of places to visit. for e.g Ilorin. a tourist doesnt care if it has a cargo airport and stadium or the natural resources it has. Quote the names of attractions and what can be done or seen there!!!
I love my state, @Kano state of Nigeria.
Uyo 4 live……proudly an akwa ibomite…God bless gov. Godswill Obot Akpabio
my country is very beautiful,i like my country no b small,up naija.
You’ve never been to Makurdi, i guess.
why is OWERRI not on da list mehn,,,pls mk una try visit o’ town, is d best
I wish u know how interesting, neat, beautiful, attractive, touristly loaded calabar is. Then you would know calabar is the most awesome city in 9ja.

UYO is Number 2 of the best #proudlyuyo
This report is extremly baised. Even the unborn child is very well aware that Calabar is #1 in terms of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria. You can google for yourself.
Warri should be removed from the list. Firstly, the picture used to describe Warri is no where in Warri that am living in. No where Warri can be used to compare that picture, no road like that in Warri ooo. I am living in the major city,( effurn, jakpa, airport road, ehenren and enviro). DSC road and refinery road are the most beautiful roads and can not be compared with that picture used. Secondly those factories and companies have relocated because of all these community boys and their wahala. De
Owerri should make the list by all means. Port Harcourt on the other hand does not qualify because of the vicious traffic conditions and harassment of visitors for so called traffic crimes. It’s a great and one of the oldest cities but the list is for the MOST LOVED cities and honestly%2ly, there’s not much to love!
I really appreciate your efforts on this, proudly Ibadan A̶̲̥̅̊₪d̶̲̥̅̊ am BOLD to tell the world that ‘I LOVE MY TOWN Ibadan ilu Ogunmola.
Ib all the way, very large & accommodating.
J-town, ‘home of peace n tourism’ writer u forgot to mention d dams in jos and alots more tourist centres but more power to u, u don try. Jos is d real London of Nigeria. Come n experience d cool weather n u will decide to make it ur second if not d first permanent home. LUV MY JTOWN LUV D COLD SERENITY!
Enugu is stil d best
Warri is an old town but not the dirtiest in Nigeria. I don’t think it should be removed from that list because every tourist destination has its uniqueness. Wafarians are very hospitable , which is very key in tourism nd there are areas in Warri that reminds one of the colonial era.Is simply an old town with an intresting history, waiting for a messiah to carefully re brand it . kudos Man!
I love every nook n cranny of my belove 9ja,may GOD continue blessing it…1 9ja!
I’m not from Calabar, but I’m presently a youth corp member there. Calabar is very fine
Why did the writer left Kaduna behind, every nigerian need to come to KD to see most amazing things
Please remove Warri with immediate effect and replace with Benin City, Zaria or Kaduna. Warri ke? Have you lived there at all???
Thank you for adding Uyo on the list; a place you must visit.
J-town no place like home..
Wait, did u say ibadan, ilorin wot a laugh i tink u are jst tryin to b fair to all tribes otherwise a City as dirty as ibadan shud Not come i n at all, illorin is even more laughable as d place shud not even b rated as a City at all ,everytin abt it is so local, rural, fetish dirty …..i Know wot am sayin i hav bin dere
My two best 3 best cities made it. Jos, Warri and Calabar.
This may be funny but has anyone been to Akure the Ondo state capital recently? It’s a cool place too. You’ll bet.
What about kaduna you didn’t include it y now. U guys r missing it out o. Love crocodile city try and visit kd city as it fondly called.
And what is warri doin there when owerri and Benin city are not? You actually know very little about nigerian cities.
I Rep cool City state(Enugu)anyways proudly Nigerian…..God bless Nigeria
Mx representer to the fullest. I carry my city on ma back. No hesitation no complain. Niger is amazing. Good peoples!
The best is yet to come
Uyo Ado Ok!!!. The fastest growing city in Nigeria.
ewo, d only thing in warri is their slank, and jaguda, i use to stay in warri, infact i grew up therei left warri 2006, u will not compare warri to benin in any way pllllsssss, may be shld com and take u round benin metropolise u will beg to stay back, interms of light we dey, infraustructure we dey, pls o dont measure warri to benin, am not supprise warri is like dat the state capital of delta state is worst no light at all, everybdy na generator, they even charge bateries and phn 50 per one with generator, too, poor bad governance, calabar is the most finest and neatest city in d whole of nigeria.
abeg tell dem.
Did u get to read d headline b4 making conclusion about warri being a slank? What has Benin got? Proudly wafarian!!!!
Maiduduri i love my state (home of peace)
Detailing Obudu cattle ranch as being in Calabar is incorrect. The ranch is located in Obanliku local Government area which was formerly part of Obudu in Cross River State. That’s about 6 hours by road from Calabar.
My home town Uyo is worth the trouble these days and my favourite town Calabar also makes the list. Then has Owerri become so bad that it could not get a look in?
Even Kaduna is not there. I thought it could have been ahead of Minna
Jos the only state in the country known to be the largest and only producers of agricultural produce like fresh fruits & vegetable, the that produces cabbage, lettuce, carrot, bitrude etc in nigeria.
What about Taraba State, the nature’s gift to nation, home of peace. I am pround of TRS.
042 is the best. The pride of the East. Enugu bu Obodo oyibo.
I love Anambra, the Dubai of Nigeria
The best city to be
What of Bauchi state?
Owerri should be on the list, it has one of the most beatiful hotels in the country.
What of Onitsha in Anambra state where you have the largest market in west Africa, that attracts thousands of visitors in and out of Nigeria.
This Benin City, Abeokuta and Kaduna deserve to be in this list iver Warri, Kano and Minna. If u say mist loved, you need to register the fun, living experiences and kind of people you’ll find in these places. Warri and Minna are kinda dry especially for indigenes not to talk of visitors. Kano is much less exciting and homely as KD! With these the list is complete!
ABEOKUTA…. d emerging city of OGUN STATE….very peaceful
Aba should be there. Atleast show the world how developed Aba is.
Anambra is the best city!Home 4 all, also Nigeria dubai
Close ur mouth there lilian , what do u mean anambra
Is the dubai of nigeria, that’s a big lie
That state is the worst state ever, there girls is the most unfaithful as far nigeria is corncen, when its comes to blood money anambra is always there to represent, a state where they feel no other tribe in nigeria is better than them, anambra women are been sold into marriages and last but not the lest they have the wost belive. There quest for money is too much. I hate igbo generally they are just mistakes to this great country.
Anambra, Hmmmm home of robbers
Ilorin is on the list it should have come before Minna. Kaduna is not on the list it should also have come before Minna. I have been to these cities and know the difference.
Ilorin should be the first on list.Dont hear from me, come and withness it cos its really Good here.
Funniest joke that I have heard lately ‘maiduguri, home of peace’.
I wish I will have the time and resources to visit and explore all these places mentioned and those not mentioned. this write up really make me love Nigeria again. Long live my father land.
I love ma state. Am Proudly Akwa ibomite. Long live Uyo! Long live Akwa ibom!! Long live NIGERIA!!!
ibadan the largest city in west Africa.. Ibadan the city of the heroes
Warri is not not included please.
Because that picture is not even in this Warri am living in. Most of the companies you are talking about have relocated to port Harcourt because of these communities boys and their wahala.
Warri is the best in whole of south south or shud I say warri and it’s environ(ughelli, effurun, ogunu, osunbi) bcos it’s like we 4got warri is used to call any whr in Delta state dat is not Asaba just like d Lagosians do
Its a lie guy benin is a dead town no light, water, no road and dust everywhere. U can’t compare warri to benin at all
J twn we d bst….am jostified…
Nnah nawa oooh, see this people oooh a whole Nigerian Dubia(Anambra State -Obodo Oma) not in the list, maka Y? In fact list INVALID,try again later
Jtown is 4 real a tourist and agricultural state.a home of peace & tourism,a home 4 all.
All of us busy clamoring for our states, lets tell ourselves the truth. where is Lagos in this list if the list is as authentic as the blogger makes it out to be? I’m not biased. I live in abuja and come from akwa ibom and schooled in uniport and all these places made the list but the absence of Lagos simply tells me this fellow is just writing for writing sake. 10 ‘most loved’ cities in Nigeria and you don’t mention Lagos? Haba.
My dear Dexter, Are you sure you read it all? Lagos is number 11 on the list. And the list is in no particular order.
The greatest market that has sustained Nigeria, Onitsha is missing in the roll call. Why? May be traders are not tourists. What of all the foreigners that are attracted to Nigeria by Otu Onitsha?
good thinking good product. very objective analysis. waooo minna made the list. pls for the critics of the choice come and see for yourselves and you will not regret you did.
Why is the seat of the caliphate not there?
How can you finish this write up without mentioning the seat of caliphate? It should be ahead of warri and ilori
the exclusion of Benin City the craddle of black civilization a moated city with the widest ring raod in the whole of West Africa, the City of bronze the father of many towns and cities including Lagos n Warri list is erroneous.
without Benin City the City of enjoyment in d list it is incomplete.
what of ABA the japan of Africa. a commercial city with a difference. in abia state. Despite that we don’t have road but we still on producing.
Nice one. Perfect description 4 ilorin. It’s good here
Ilu tojinna sinna tosumma Aljanna ilorin ni wao nic one
Best position for the IB’s always on top.
All these beautiful cities that was analysed, what about ehimba city?(ABA)
In Warri we go all it takes to feed d Nation, from farm produce to iron and steel and even to crude oil and not to talk of our ports. We are Mini-Nigeria with great potential. Infact we top d list if it were to b in order.
One most worst city in Nigeria: Aba! Pls show the world the evil of some Governors in Nigeria. Aba stinks!!
I luv my capital ilorin
Uyo and calabar? You’ve made a wonderful selection. Those cities are paradise on earth, a place one need to visit. Weldone for including them in the list.
I hv not seen my kada state, dis survey is not complet without mentioning kaduna state, de centre for learning.
PORT HARCOURT, THE GARDEN CITY AND THE ECONOMIC HUB OF AFRICA.

Am pleased to have read this. Today i have known the different cities that has the biggest Cities, most liked, and it economical value.
Most of all in CROSS RIVER my beutiful state
How can you not list Owerri? How?
Thank you o! Owerri, the entertainment capital of Nigeria!
042, The Empire State of Nigeria…she is like a mother, she gave birth to so many Nigerian past, rising and reigning super stars ‘both soccer super stars, movie super stars and music super stars. Many of them started their carriers in coal city before heading to any other cities like Lagos, Abuja and outside the country. Here’s my lil’ anthem for my city. Like mama you birth me, Coal city you nurse me, like teacher you thought me, Hilly City you bred me…If i got a second life, i will still be your son and when i got my first son, i will nick name him Coal city, you will love his serenity just like the Coal city.
I love you; the city of Life in my city, the city of big ladies and gents…THE CITY OF GREAT KINGS AND PEOPLE!
So Loving ur comment!
Warri is the only city mention here that is not a capital city. I’m proud of my Home.
I am proudly Akwa Ibomite. Akwa Ibom ayaiya.
We are the real yobeans, what a wonderful? Come on “The young shall Grown”.
I read through your list i travel widely in Nigeria. For what reason is Ibadan on the list and why Kano and Niger or are you doing quota system here? Apart from Abuja, Jos, Enugu, Uyo. Calabar and perhaps Lagos, others shouldn’t make this list. It will also be good to note places of interest in each town.
Perhaps Lagos?
…..and u r evn questioning Ibadan?im not sure u r a Nigerian.
Anyway…….”Not to know wat happenef before u were born is to remain a child forever”
Ilorin <3 <3 Love my state capital

As an artiste and video director, I traveled a lot across Nigeria,so I guess u are right to some extence, but not 70% right, u omit some beautiful livable and admirable city, when last did u visit akure, or kaduna and some other beautiful cities u didn’t mention here? Nigeria is a blessed country with some fabulous and fantastic great city.
Wow!! More of this please. Is very very educative.

Ibadan as no 1. is beautiful, I love my state.
Am stil looking for aba, abia state……
.
.
I Dnt think this post is complete 😉
am very sure the writer, ve never been to owerri, where money is spent. dat city should be on this list.
Jos popularly known as “J TOWN” which is nw J city is the Europe of Naija bcos of it weather n beautiful serenity which includes water falls, hills, rocks, beautiful landscape etc is d number one home of tourism. Places like Lagos ” eko oni baje o” abuja, Calabar, Akwa Ibom, Akure, n Ibadan are also nice
Well, you are not far from the truth, but much is missing regarding my vast traveling experiences. Abuja, Enugu, Calaba, Uyo,Jos are OK. Cities like PH and LAG are popular base on economic status but very stressful places to be. Sir, Ibadan, kano, did not make the list by my rating. I prefer you mention Akure, Kaduna, Asaba. Even Abakiliki of today is a sweet place. Except you are talking about money and population.
Akwa Ibom Ayaya
#042 Is a place to be. very cool, beautiful place and nice people to meet in coal city “iluvENUGU…
Very few other states might be better than 042/Coalcity/Enugu, but the fact still remains that any sincere Nigerian that come across Enugu falls %100 in love with the Coal city…….uncountable non coal city guys have testified. Enugu is awesome. Come and see it yourself. God bless u as u come.
I think some of us failed to read the write-up that preceded the list of cities. Note that the publisher made it specifically clear that the rankings were in no particular order. Also, the write-up stated different reasons why different people love the cities in the list. I don’t see any reason why the cities on the list shouldn’t make the list based on the criteria stated by the publisher.
Questions: Is it correct to say that Kwara State is located in the North-South Western part of Nigeria?
Is it one of the seven states where Yoruba is spoken at present and in the past?
where is other loved cities in Nigeria? and is it based on the resources derived from each city?
where is Kaduna state
Warri is a blessed land with so much swag, Delta 4 life.
Where’s Benin City.
What of sapele?
Warri for life o
Akwa ibom 4 really
Am always amazed whenever i see comment like this.. I am from the yoruba speaking area of kwara state. That am a Northerner doesn’t mean am not yoruba.. Region is quite different from ethnicity.. OK think of this.. How would you regard the yoruba clans of Republic du Benin.. Would you say they are not yoruba because they are Benenoise..?? And point of correction not all kwara belong yoruba tribe examples include nupe, Bokos, Bokobaro dat dominates d northern part of d state, and few fulani, and Gobir of Ilorin and Jebba areas.. Though some can speak yoruba but all can speak their individual language fluently. All in all, it will not be fair wen you say d entirety of kwara is yoruba.. kwara looks good and better in d North central Region dan being in d west..
Warri the d big heart
That’s true Mr olayinka
Loved! Ok, if it were the most important I would think Onitsha would be there because it is the heart of trade and commerce in Nigeria and neighbouring African countries. Ppl may not love it for its busy and ‘business minded’ nature but it is lovable because it feeds and empowers a lot of families.
Good one o. But how did you guys discover that people hates or loves such a place? its strange o
How come onitsha is not there
This list doesn’t add up. Where is Ph?
Even the ranking is bad. Ibadan comes first?
I think the writer was overly biased.
Bro, PH is in No 6… Open your eyes and read again
Thank you for mentioned WARRI..?
warri no wan hear say we carry last> their father
I agree with the last comment how do u guys know bout d state pple loved most…..its some how not possible

list is just to let us have some onsite of how people can be so ego centric with their home cities even when those cities don’t even have what it takes to be called a city like portable pipe bon water , clean taxi , good road network , and above all trusted security outfit which is lacking even at the so called federal capital territory .
Please leave your comment…what of Gombe state for life?
Please leave your comment…great job Jos for life……. home of White men
so accurate. always loved.
