It’s been quite exhilarating since last week Sunday and we are over the moon to announce the success of our company as we won the award for the ‘Best Online Booking Platform in Africa’ and ‘Top Travel Company In West Africa’ at the Africa Travel Awards that was held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos on 30 October 2016.
The three-day event organised by Akwaaba Africa Travellers Market for the African Tourism and Travel Industry. The Akwaaba Africa Travel Market is an annual travel and tourism exhibition which has been held in Lagos since its inception in 2005 with an objective of transferring knowledge about travel, hospitality and aviation sectors globally.
We had the perfect opportunity to exhibit more on what Travelstart has to offer in the midst of other travel agencies presented at the event.

On the second day of the event tagged “Africa Travel & Tourism Conference”. Notable Speakers in the Travel Industry discussed on issues bothering the aviation industry such as;
- Immigration as a catalyst for the growth of Tourism and Travel in Africa.
- State of Aviation in Africa.
- Aviation in Africa.
- State of Tourism in Africa.
- E-tourism.
- The Internet and Future of Travel in Africa.
- Tourism Planning : A needed tool for sustainable tourism development.
- Modern payment platforms and challenges in Africa.
Our country manager Philip Akesson was also among the panel members discussing “The Internet and Future of Travel In Africa”. He elaborated on how the emergence of the social media has contributed immensely to the growth of travel Industry, therefore he encouraged other travel agencies to tap into what social media has to offer and its benefits.

On the third day, the event was tagged as “Hospitality Day” there were meeting incentives, conventions and events (MICE). They also debated on “Hotel Standardization and Classification as a Tool for Tourism Growth and Digitizing the Hotel Environment.

It was truly a wonderful experience for the team to work outside the office environment. We also did a presentation of Travelstart to customers that made enquiries when visiting our stand. We were beyond thrilled that our hard work and efforts were recognised by top echelon in the travel industry.
