The travel tech policy states that passengers on these flights, regardless of nationality, must check their gadgets in their luggage before it can be brought onboard.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Travelstart Nigeria is gathering more information about the situation to better keep its customers informed and safe<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">What led to the Travel Tech Policy?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on intelligence reports, the <a title=\"UK\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\">UK <\/a>and <a title=\"US\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\/lp\/airlines\/virgin-atlantic\/#fareConditions\">US<\/a> travel tech policies are in response to the threat of terrorism. \u00a0Both governments seek to enhance security procedures for passengers to better protect them as well as their citizens by placing new checks at the last point of departure before entering the United States and the United Kingdom. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a statement released by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2017\/03\/21\/qa-aviation-security-enhancements-select-last-point-departure-airports-commercial\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Department of Homeland Security<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2017\/03\/21\/qa-aviation-security-enhancements-select-last-point-departure-airports-commercial\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">i<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">t<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2017\/03\/21\/qa-aviation-security-enhancements-select-last-point-departure-airports-commercial\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">h<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2017\/03\/21\/qa-aviation-security-enhancements-select-last-point-departure-airports-commercial\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the restriction on electronic gadgets, is as a result of past security issues to the Unites States such as the \u201c2015 airliner downing in Egypt<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 2016 attempted airliner downing in Somalia<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 2016 armed attacks against airports in Brussels and Istanbul\u201d. This was further evaluated by the Intelligence department that &#8220;terrorist groups continue to target commercial aviation and are pursuing innovative methods to undertake their attacks, including smuggling explosive devices in various consumer items.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">When does the Travel Tech Policy Go into effect?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2017\/03\/21\/qa-aviation-security-enhancements-select-last-point-departure-airports-commercial\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Department of Homeland Security<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the United States, the policy will take effect from \u00a0Friday, 24th of March, 2017 and will be valid until <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14 October 2017<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On the other hand, UK government has not given a start date for the ban but says airlines are \u201cin process of implementing it\u201d. However, some U.K. airlines have already begun introducing the new restrictions.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Book for cheap flight <a title=\"here\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\">here<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">What type of electronic devices are banned?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The United States and United Kingdom have both announced that tablets, laptops, handheld games consoles, e-readers such as Kindles, iPads, portable DVD players and any other electronic device that is not a phone or larger than 6.3inch (16cm) long, 3.6 inches (9.3cm) wide and 0.6 inches (1.5cms) deep will be banned from cabin luggage on some flights from Middle Eastern countries, North Africa as well as Turkey. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/95259013_device_travel_banned_inf624.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38602\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/95259013_device_travel_banned_inf624.png\" alt=\"Travelstart\" width=\"624\" height=\"371\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">Who will be affected by the Travel Tech Policy?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The travel tech policy affects any passenger travelling to the <a title=\"US\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\/lp\/north-america\">US<\/a> or<a title=\"UK\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\/lp\/airlines\/virgin-atlantic\/#fareConditions\"> UK<\/a> \u00a0from the following countries <a title=\"Turrkey\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\">Turkey,<\/a> <a title=\"Lebanon\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\">Lebanon<\/a>, <a title=\"Jordan\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\">Jordan<\/a>, <a title=\"Egypt\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\">Egypt<\/a>, <a title=\"Tunisia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\">Tunisia<\/a>\u00a0, <a title=\"Saudi Arabia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\">Saudi Arabia<\/a> and also those flying from the <a title=\"United Arab Emirates\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\">United Arab Emirates<\/a>, Qatar, Kuwait and Morocco.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">What airport and airlines will be affected by the Travel Tech Policy?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the report from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2017\/03\/21\/news\/airline-electronics-ban-explainer\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CNN<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the ban will also affect inbound passengers from the listed countries on flights operated by British Airways, Easyjet, Jet2, Monarch, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Atlas-Global, Egyptair, Tunisair, Royal Jordanian, Saudi and Middle East airlines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the <a title=\"United States\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\/lp\/north-america\/\">US<\/a> officials confirmed that no American carriers will be affected by the ban, which would involve devices larger than a mobile phone. Passengers on American airlines such as Delta Airlines and <a title=\"Virgin Atlantic\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.com.ng\/lp\/airlines\/virgin-atlantic\/#fareConditions\">Virgin Atlantic Airlines<\/a> would be allowed to carry larger devices in their checked luggage. Airlines will be given a few days to adjust to the new regulations, and those who refuse to do so will be barred from flying to the UK and The United States. The affected airlines have agreed to comply with the new travel tech policy. <\/span><b>The affected airports are;<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abu Dhabi International, United Arab Emirates<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ataturk Airport, Istanbul, Turkey<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cairo International Airport, Egypt<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dubai International, United Arab Emirates<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hamad International, Doha, Qatar<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King Abdulaziz International, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King Khalid International, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kuwait International Airport<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mohammed V International, Casablanca, Morocco<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Queen Alia International, Amman, Jordan<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">How will the Travel Tech Policy affect Nigerians?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nigerian passengers that have stopovers during their flights to US or UK through one of the listed airports or flying one of the listed airlines. For example, if you are flying from Lagos to New York through Dubai, you will need to check-in your larger than a smartphone electronic device.
