The United States of America President Trump\u2019s immigration ban took up much of the weekend news around the world after he signed travel ban on seven countries from the Middle East and Africa<\/a>. The ban prevents immigrants from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the US for the next 90 days except those with special visas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two categories of Nigerians were immediately worried by this executive order. The first were those who have visited any of the seven listed countries recently, and the second were those who have dual citizenship in any of these countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

What Led to the Trump\u2019s Travel Ban?<\/span><\/h2>\n

According to President Donald Trump, the ban was enforced to improve national security and prevent terrorists from entering into America. He further clarified the order was not a Muslim ban since other 40 Muslim countries were not listed among the banned countries. <\/span><\/p>\n

However, the blanket nature of the policy which was misinterpreted to include any member of the Muslim faith seeking to cross the United State of America border provoked a flurry of questions on who is exactly affected by this executive order.<\/span><\/p>\n

The order banned citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries which are \u00a0Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Every citizen and anyone travelling from one of the 7 countries faces \u00a090-days visa suspension. However, some visa categories such as diplomats and the UN, are not included in the suspension. This new immigration policy has brought in a suspension of the US Refugee Admission programme for 120 days with an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees.<\/span><\/p>\n
